A desire arises in the mind. It is satisfied, immediately another
comes. In the interval which separates two desires a perfect calm
reigns in the mind. It is at this moment freed from all thought, love
or hate. Complete peace equally reigns between two mental waves.
-Sri Swami Sivananda

Act according to the truth in simplicity; and, whatever happens, do not help thyself; for he who helps himself too much will not be helped by the Truth.

I am before, I am after,
The soul for all souls all the way.
I’m the one with a helping hand,
Ready for those gone wild, astray.
I made the ground flat where it lies,
On it I had those mountains rise,
I designed the vault of the skies,
For I hold all things in my sway.
To countless lovers I have been,
A guide for faith and religion.,
I am sacrilege in men’s hearts,
Also the true faith and Islam’s way.
I make men love peace and unite,
Putting down the black words on white,
I wrote the four holy books right,
I’m the Koran for those who pray.
It’s not Yunus who says all this,
It speaks its own realities,
To doubt this would be blasphemous,
“I’m before-I’m after,” I say.
- Yunus Emre

Prayer, according to its quality, is communion and union of man with God, by its action it upholds the world. It is reconciliation with God. It is the mother, but also the daughter, of tears.
It is the atonement of sins, a bridge over temptations, a wall against affliction, a crushing of conflicts, a work of Angels, the food of the Incorporeal, future gladness, boundless work, source of virtues, cause of grace, invisible progress, food of the soul, illumination of the mind, an axe against despair, a proof of hope, a cure for sorrow, the wealth of monks, the treasure of hesychasts (those who practice inner prayer, aiming at union with God on a level beyond images, concepts and language), the reduction of anger, the mirror of progress, the demonstration of stature, an indication of one’s condition, a revelation of future things, a sign of glory.
For one who truly prayers, prayer is the court, the judgment hall and the tribunal of the Lord before the judgement to come.
- St. John of the Ladder

“How do you go about finding anything? By keeping your mind and heart on it. Interest there must be and steady remembrance. To remember what needs to be remembered is the secret of success. You come to it through earnestness”
— Sri Nisargadatta Maharaj

“The wise man should keep the balance between love and power; he should keep the love in his nature ever increasing and expanding, and at the same time strengthen the will so that the heart may not easily be broken.”
- Hazrat Inayat Khan
“In truth everything and everyone is a shadow of the Beloved.
Our seeking is His seeking.
Our words are His words.
We search for Him here and there while looking right at Him.
Sitting by His side, we ask: ‘O Beloved, where is the Beloved?”
- Hazreti Mevlana Jalaluddin Rumi
